If you look around this site, you’ll find various mentions of CEREC dentistry. It’s a crucial part of our practice. But you might very well be wondering- what on Earth is “CEREC?”
It’s a perfectly legitimate question, and one we get all the time. CEREC stands for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics.” Put simply, it’s a system that creates high-quality ceramic dental work in a single visit.
In the past, creating such ceramics required multiple visits to the dentist, uncomfortable and unpleasant wax impressions of your teeth and long waits while the ceramics were crafted at a distant lab. The resulting dental work was quite good, but the process was inconvenient.
CEREC uses computer-assisted design and manufacture to:
- Take high-quality images of your teeth
- Translate the pictures into a 3D image
- Design a restoration to fit your specific teeth and bite
- Send the restoration to a milling machine, where it is created right then and there
The entire process takes a single visit, and we know how important that is to someone with your busy schedule. The resulting ceramics are quite sturdy and strong, and our patients are universally pleased with their dental work.
